Before George Washington became the first official president under the current U.S. Constitution, there were several presidents of the Continental Congress and the Congress of the Confederation. Here are eight of them:
1. Peyton Randolph
2. Henry Middleton
3. John Hancock
4. Henry Laurens
5. John Jay
6. Samuel Huntington
7. Thomas McKean
8. John Hanson
These individuals served as presidents of the Continental Congress or the Congress of the Confederation, but their roles were quite different from the presidency established by the U.S. Constitution.
